Famous Michiganders Living Museunm Research Project Dear Parents and Guardians Your child is participating in an exciting project called the “Famous Michiganders Living Museum.” The Living Museum will involve students researching a famous Michigander as pa of our social studies and language arts curriculum. This famous person may be a historical figure, author, sports celebrity, singer, actor, inventor, etc. Knowing that some famous people may be more popular than others, every effort will be made to make sure that one of your child’s Top 5 choices will be honored. Research Students will do a majority of the research at home and some at school (many of the current celebrities will be researched using a variety of Internet sources-kid friendly search engines will be used for this task). Students will receive weekly homework assignments that will cov ut are not limited to, the following topics: Birthdate and Birthplace and/or their ties to Michigan A paragraph describing the childhood of this famous Michigander Before becoming famous, describe other types of jobs this person worked at before becoming famous List three to five important facts (life events) about this famous Michigander. Describe how perseverance helped your famous person reach his/her goal in life and never giving up got them to their goal (i.e. Henry Ford starting over after his first two companies failed and continuing to try and find a way to make a car affordable for all people, not just the wealthy or how Walt Disney (not a Michigander) continued to wo on his animations even after he was told by a company that he “lacked creativity and imagination.” . . . . e Students will use these homework assignments to compose their research paper in cla The Presentation . Your information must be sequentially correct. You are giving information about a person’s life. It must have a beginning, middle, and end (i.e. Introduction, Birthplace and birthdate, important events in your life that led to his/her success, and how they persevered towards their goal.) 4. You do not need to memorize your script. You may read right from your script (parents may help type to make it easier to read). Practice reading your script several times. When you present your biography, you should read clearly and with expression. Our audience wants to hear you. You should not be buried in your script. Look at your audience as much as you can. Practice is very important. It will make you feel more comfortable in front of your audience. 5. Some sort of a costume is a must! This can be as simple as a hat or as dramatic as an entire outfit complete with props. Try to find items from around your house. Remember when dressing as your character you need to think about what type of clothing would have been (or is) worn by that person.
