Cemetery project

• Choose a cemetery to visit that is in the area in Washington DC ,USA . ( Make sure to research for cemeteries in the area and look for Pictures to write about it and share the link with me)
• Make sure you visit the cemetery with another person.
• Cemeteries in the area include Rock Creek Cemetery (founded in the early 1700s) and Glenwood Cemetery. There is a military cemetery connected with the Armed Forces Retirement Home, across the street from Rock Creek Cemetery. I recommend that you not go to military cemeteries such as Arlington National Cemetery because most of the monuments are identical.
• Write about you experience.
  • Paragraph 1: Give a brief history of the cemetery that you visited. What is the main characteristic of the cemetery architecturally? Is it church related? Does it have mausoleums? A columbarium?
  • Describe three gravestones/memorials. Choose three gravestones or memorials with three different and distinctive styles and give a description of the symbols and text on the stone. Include photos of the three memorials as an appendix to your paper.
  • Final paragraph: discuss what you learned from the visit about the beliefs, hopes, and memories that the memorials evoked in the light of our class readings.
