Anthropology Project 3

Question Description

This is 3 parts paper could you read those ethnographies and do the project in 72 hours?

part 1) Drawing from examples taken from at least two out of the three ethnographies

1- Napoleon Chagnon’s The Yanomamo;

2- Kristen Ghodsee’s Lost in Transition: Ethnographies of Everyday Life after Communism;

3- Richard Wilk’s Home cooking in the global village

discuss the role that socio-cultural anthropologists play in producing a unique kind of knowledge about societies and cultures. Feel free to use all available materials: readings, class notes, PP presentations, videos. (2-3 pages)

part 2) Imagine that you meet with a Yanomamo that has the same age as you, but does not know about the US culture. Explain to him/her, in lay words (but not too informal) one aspect of your culture, at your choice (e.g. a ceremonial, a type of food, a belief or a custom, a festival or celebration, a piece of clothing, an item of technology, a kinship relation, etc.). (1 page; use a font no larger than 12, double-spaced, and no more than 1-inch margins)

part 3) Revisit mini-project 1 (the ‘puzzling’ picture). Re-read the questions you asked, reflect upon them, and write about your ethnocentric assumptions (if any) expressed in those questions. (about 300 words)
